Welcome to Langston University

As I begin my tenure as Langston University 's 15 th president, I
observe the Langston community from the perspective of a recent
arrival. What I see excites me, and that excitement can only
increase as I continue to meet the fine citizens of this community -
- the students, faculty, staff, and alumni -- and prepare to transition
the university to greater levels of work, accomplishment, and distinction.

Since 1897, Langston University 's primary mission has been to provide excellent postsecondary education to individuals seeking knowledge, skills, and attitudes that will enhance the human condition and promote a world that is peaceful, intellectual, technologically advanced, and one that fulfills the needs of nations and individuals alike. Langston University strives to educate individuals to become tomorrow's leaders in their local, national, and global communities.

Students who come to Langston University enter an environment in which the dominant desire is to learn, and the most characteristic activity is to ask questions. At Langston University , the art of teaching is viewed not merely as a matter of imparting knowledge, but also it is a process of encouraging and guiding learners. Our goal is to weave the timeless human values of leadership, lifelong learning, service to others, and exemplary character into the fabric of our day-to-day operation.

As president, I will build upon Langston University 's great legacy by expecting students to

•  Possess a true desire to gain knowledge.

•  Set realistic goals and work hard toward accomplishing these goals.

•  Adhere to class attendance regulations. Absences from class impede the earning process.

•  Engage in experiential and service-learning activities, whether through internships, preceptorships, externships or other world-of-work opportunities.

•  Seek out mentors among their instructors.

•  Conduct themselves with dignity as mature young men and women.

•  Demonstrate self-respect, respect for others, and respect for University property.

Langston's campus juxtaposes traditional and contemporary aesthetics, which illustrates our value of things past and our nurture of things present. Always remembering and respecting our history, we view continued growth as the central theme of our future. An example of our future growth includes the Research and Extension function, which serves as the major Land-Grant arm of the university. The E (Kika) de la Garza Institute for Goat Research is the world's foremost goat research center. It has established cooperative working agreements with Ethiopia , Mexico , China , and the Philippines . Langston also supports the State of Oklahoma 's lead research and extension group in Aquaculture. This group is largely responsible for growing the state's catfish industry into a multi-million dollar enterprise.
