Dr. Sharlene Y. Johnson, a native of Chicago, Ill., received her doctorate in Educational Administration from Oklahoma State University in Educational Administration in 1997, a Master of Science in Reading form Northeastern State University in 1988, and her Bachelor of Science from The University of Illinois in History and Education in 1971.
Dr. Johnson has served as the Coordinator of Langston University-Tulsa’s School of Education and Behavioral Science since 1997. She was the Principal of Lanier Elementary School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She taught in several Tulsa Public Schools, at Millwood Public Schools in Oklahoma City and in Chicago Public Schools at the elementary and secondary levels.
Dr. Johnson currently serves as the Coordinator of The School of Education and Behavioral Sciences at the Langston University –Tulsa campus. Her administrative duties include supervising several faculty members, scheduling courses and assigning course loads. She teaches subject area and professional courses for the undergraduate Elementary Education and Special Education programs. Dr. Johnson also teaches graduate level courses in The Urban Education Graduate program. She advises undergraduate and graduate students, serve on resident committees for entry-level teachers in the Tulsa area and several university committees, accreditation committees. Dr. Johnson represent Langston at various Tulsa community organizations.
Dr. Johnson’s professional affiliations include: NCATE/AACTE-sponsored Historically Black Colleges/Universities Technical Services Network participant; Oklahoma Cooperative for Clinical Experiences in Teacher Education (OCCETE) member and chair, Oklahoma Commission for Teacher Preparation State BOE Team, Oklahoma Commission for Teacher Preparation Professional Portfolio State Team, National Evaluation Systems, Inc. – Oklahoma Subject Area Test Content Advisory Committee for Reading Specialist. Dr. Johnson currently serves as a National Council For Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) National Board of Examiner (BOE) member. |
