INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY
Langston University will authorize a change in its normal operating hours when hazardous weather conditions are predicted or occur that present a serious threat to the institution’s safe and efficient operation and the well-being and safety of its students and employees.
Procedures
A. The President, with recommendations from the Vice President for Academic Affairs and the University Police Department, will make the decision to change the operating status of Langston University in the event of inclement weather.
A. “The University Is Closed” means that students, faculty and staff (other than those deemed “essential staff” (see definition below) for weather-related incidents) should not report.
B. “The University Will Open Late” pertains to all students, faculty and non-essential staff. When arriving at the University, plan for activities and classes to happen at their regularly scheduled times. Activities other than University sponsored events and classes that would have happened prior to opening are cancelled on that day. The Athletics Director or designee will notify ticket holders as to the status of its events when a decision has been made.
C. “The University Will Cancel Classes” applies only to faculty and students at Langston University. All other employees are expected to work.
The following areas are considered “essential” to ensuring that the University continues to operate effectively during inclement weather: Campus Police, Food Services, Physical Plant, Student Affairs (specific designees), Information Technology Services, Libraries and the Athletics Director. Other personnel may be deemed “essential” depending on specific conditions.
The Office of Public Relations will be responsible for contacting all local television stations and radio stations regarding the University’s operating status. Students and employees will also be notified via campus email, voice mail and a website posting at www.lunet.edu. Signs will also be placed throughout the campus on bulletin boards. Information will also be provided on the University’s main telephone line (405) 466-2231.
